There’s nothing like biting into a hot honey chicken burger that’s crunchy on the outside, juicy in the middle, and just the right mix of sweet and spicy. This version is a healthier favourite because the chicken is oven-baked, not fried. By coating it in a golden cornflake crumb and baking until crisp, you get all the crunch without the heavy oil. It’s proof that comfort food doesn’t have to feel like a guilty pleasure—it can be wholesome, balanced, and still absolutely crave-worthy.

“A hot honey chicken burger is proof that food can be both indulgent and uplifting—comfort with a kick.”

Top 5 Burger Filling Suggestions

We’re not here to tell you how to make a burger. because that is surely up to your own preferences. But, just in case you’re looking for some burgerlicious inspo – here’s a few suggestions on what to pair with this burger.

  • Creamy Slaw with a Tangy Vinegar Dressing: A good slaw is the perfect burger sidekick. The crisp crunch of cabbage and carrot brings freshness, while a light vinegar-based dressing cuts through the sweetness of the honey glaze and richness of the chicken. It’s a cooling element that balances spice while keeping every bite bright.
  • Cowboy candy Jalapeños for Extra Kick: If you love an extra layer of heat, cowboy candy jalapeños are the way to go. Their tangy bite doesn’t just add fire—it adds acidity and sweetness that sharpens and enhances the sweet-spicy glaze on the chicken. You can go for store-bought rings or make a quick homemade pickle in under an hour.
  • Melted Cheddar or Mozzarella: Cheese is optional, but it turns a good burger into a great one. Cheddar brings sharpness and depth, mozzarella gives you that irresistible melt and stretch, while something like provolone or Swiss offers subtle nutty notes. Whatever you choose, the creamy melt balances out the chilli heat beautifully.
  • Avocado or Guacamole for Creaminess: For those who love richness without heaviness, avocado is the answer. A few slices bring buttery smoothness, while guacamole adds zingy lime and herbs into the mix. Either way, it rounds out the burger and makes it feel indulgent without needing extra mayo.
  • Red onion slices: Red onion adds a sharp, slightly sweet crunch that brightens the burger and cuts through the richness of the meat and sauce.
  • Sauerkraut for a Tangy Twist: A spoonful of sauerkraut adds bright acidity and crunch, balancing the sweet heat of the hot honey glaze and cutting through the richness of the chicken for a lighter, more vibrant bite.
  • Truffle Rayu Mayo: Stir a little of your truffle rayu into mayonnaise for a quick, luxurious spread. It adds silky umami, a touch of heat, and earthy depth that makes the burger taste restaurant-level without extra effort. Then add extra truffle for

Alternatives to the Cornflake Crumb

Not everyone has cornflakes in the pantry, so here are some other crunchy coatings that work beautifully: Let’s face it though, basically anything can be a crumb if you want it to be, right?

  • Almond meal for a gluten-free, slightly nutty alternative
  • Panko breadcrumbs for a lighter, flaky crunch
  • Left over sourdough toasted and turned into a crumb gives a slightly acidic but delicious bite
  • Rolled oats for a rustic, nutty feel (use the ready in minutes ones, not the old school whole ones)
  • Crushed tortilla chips for a Tex-Mex vibe

A note on ingredients:

Every good burger starts with good quality ingredients. If you wanna make your burgers better then why not start with the best your pantry can carry.

Korean oven baked chicken burgers
Just yolking around… .

Eggs: Essential for binding the crumb to the chicken. Fresh, free-range eggs have stronger whites and richer yolks, which help everything stick better.

Cornflakes: Go for plain, unsweetened cornflakes. Crushing them lightly keeps texture—too fine and you’ll lose the crunch.

Chicken: Free-range breast or thigh both work. Breast is leaner, while thigh stays juicier. Pound to even thickness for consistent cooking.

Cheese: We usually use cheddar (because it’s a staple in our household) which gives a sharp punch, mozzarella also offers a lovely gooey melt, and Swiss or provolone add a subtle nutty undertone. Plenty of hard cheeses will work though, just try to choose one that complements, not overpowers, the hot honey.

Slaw: A crisp, fresh slaw balances the richness. Use cabbage, carrot, and maybe apple for sweetness. A light vinegar-based dressing cuts through the honey glaze beautifully.
